Is it possible?

Mon Mar 2, 2009, 6:33 PM
When we were young, we were always told that we could be anything we want to be. We are told that our only parameter is the sky and that the only requirement is to dream of our success, whether it be as a fashion designer, a doctor, or even the president. However as we grow older, we come to realize that our dreams begin to narrow and that the world of possibility that once seemed so vast, so very open, is now not so frequented. In fact, so many rarely ever venture to possibility to explore their dreams or to see their success come true. Suddenly, childhood dreams don’t seem as important as they once were. That magical possibility of being anything in the entire world simply disappears. Life just sets in and the road more traveled becomes the pathway for their life. And easiness indulges itself upon these people who are no longer youthful or innocent and cannot remember that feeling of what could be. Why does our path in life have to be set just so? It’s the deviations and impulses and free will that are life’s way of reminding us of the existence of that open and wonderful world, possibility.

Too often we look back with regrets and question what if. We wonder if the choices we made, were the wrong ones and if our lives would be any different had we changed one small thing. And everyone questions this. It’s when these questions plague us that we realize the wrongs we have done in our time. What a comfort it is when we no longer have to listen to the echoes of our past and we can only hear the whispers of desires and actual happiness that beckon us onward to the future. You can’t dream of a future without knowing that you have done a few things right along the way. Your hope will guide you, but only you can decide if you can have it.

I want that possibility back. And I want to believe in it all again. I want to believe in the fundamental good in people. Every dream and wish that I have can come true. I need to know that the choices I make, matter. I may not make much sense and I may wear my heart on my sleeve, but at least I am trying. To be a better person, to make someone laugh, to always be happy with what I am doing. And, for the most part, I succeed. They say never regret anything, because at the time, it was exactly everything you wanted. Never let yourself be guided by this. Absolutely live with regrets. That’s when you know you’ve lived a life that is full of mistakes and utter happiness at those high points.
